Guidelines for Proposals
Please submit your proposal with these factors in mind:
Conference topics:
COV4 will highlight emerging strategies and new frameworks that focus on ending violence without relying on policing, mass incarceration, restrictive legislation, and other systems of violence and control. However, we are open to workshops on any theme that is in keeping with INCITE!’s mission to address the intersections of interpersonal, state, and institutional violence against women of color, trans & gender non-conforming people of color, and our communities. Please see the Call for Proposals for more details.
Proposal Deadline:
The deadline to submit proposals has been EXTENDED to September 15, 2014!
Who can submit a proposal:
We invite survivors of violence, artists, media makers, health practitioners, advocates, young people, people in the sex trade, students, activists & community organizers, scholars & teachers, and anyone else interested in submitting workshops and presentations that examine questions raised in the Call for Proposals and break new ground. Women of color, girls of color, trans & gender non-conforming people of color, Indigenous women and two-spirit people, immigrants of color, currently or formerly incarcerated people of color, and disabled people of color are strongly encouraged to submit proposals.
Formats:
We welcome a variety of formats: performances, participatory workshops, learning labs, story circles, open discussions, strategy sessions, activist studios, network gatherings, etc.
How do I submit a proposal?
Please submit your proposal online: http://www.colorofviolence.org/submit-a-proposal.html
Please do not e-mail your proposal, that makes it hard for us to keep track of things, and we don't want to miss your submission!
Accessibility:
We ask that presenters design their program for a diverse audience. If a presentation includes visual content (e.g., powerpoint presentation, video, handouts, or charts and graphics), it will be helpful to have videos captioned and some copies of text prepared in large print. This will be helpful for guests who have low vision or who are deaf or hard of hearing. In addition, we will try to give presenters a heads up if conference attendees make accessibility requests (i.e. mobility needs, language translation, etc.) when registering and express interest in their conference sessions. We welcome feedback for creating an accessible space!
Questions:
If you have have more questions, please contact us here or e-mail us cov4incite@gmail.com. E-mail works best for us, but if e-mail is difficult to access, you can also leave a voice message at 510.643.4245 and we'll call you back as soon as possible.
